Minnesota Court Confirms Franken Senate Seat

The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in favor of former comedian and satirist Al Franken in the contentious Senate race against incumbent Republican Senator Norm Coleman, who lost to his challenger by a mere 225 votes, according to a recount of the November ballots conducted in January. Senator Coleman objected based on evidence that as many as 4800 absentee ballots were wrongly rejected and should have been counted. Subsequently, several hundred of the absentee ballots were recounted and found to increase Franken's lead to 312 votes. The incumbent appealed unsuccessfully to the Minnesota Supreme Court which on Tuesday declared Franken the official winner of the race. The new senator favors pro-choice, stricter gun laws, and a revamped, more progressive income tax system.
